Coming out to your mail carrier
Earlier this year I wrote about how my copies of Out and Advocate arrive at my home wrapped in opaque plastic whether or not I want such discretion.
The most recent issue of Advocate announced that subscribers now have a choice. If you don’t want the plastic wrap, go to this page and enter your subscription number (which you can find on the wrap itself, or on your invoices and renewal notices).
The sign-up page touts the sans wrap option as saving money for the company (and, in turn, added value to readers):
Please help us reduce the negative environmental impact of the plastic wrap currently mailed, and divert more magazine resources from printing/delivery to news and content development.
Interestingly, until now, the reasoning from LPI for not having the wrap-opt-out was that the cost was too prohibitive to track individual requests and prepare separate batches.
In any event, now that there actually is an option to receive these magazines unwrapped, how many of the anti-shame and/or eco-aware subscribers will actually go for it?
