Memorial Day Statement from SLDN

From SLDN:

Today, our nation pauses to remember the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform. All of us at Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) are proud to fight on behalf of America’s military personnel, and to salute their commitment to liberty and justice for all.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans have fought for our country’s ideals since the Revolutionary War. Yet, despite their honor, courage and duty, our government still officially discriminates against these brave patriots. There should be no place, in a nation founded upon the principle that we are all created equal, for such prejudice to survive. On this Memorial Day, and every day, SLDN remains committed to ending “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and fighting for the freedom to serve.

More than 1 million lesbian and gay veterans have served our nation proudly. Another 65,000 lesbian and gay troops are on duty, around the world, today. Each has answered our nation’s call to serve and each deserves our gratitude and respect.
