Rainbow Rumpus / Ellison and Me
Here’s another great opportunity for my advice column to reach new readers:
Rainbow Rumpus, an online magazine for kids of LGBT parents, has been running reprints of my advice column on their site (with my permission) in a section specifically for parents. This month’s question is about teens adjusting to a newly blended lesbian-parent household.
Minnesota’s new congressman (representing my district), Keith Ellison, contributed a piece to the site last month, and it looks like this might be a recurring gig for him.
So I guess you could say that Congressman Ellison and I are literally on the same page:

Ellison certainly isn’t wishy-washy on where he stands on LGBT issues. At Rainbow Rumpus he writes:
I am…extremely proud to carry the voices of the LGBT community here in Washington, D.C., and have been working hard to support progressive pro-family legislation. I have joined as a cosponsor of the “Hate Crimes” bill that would add sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and disability to existing law regarding the authority of the federal government to investigate and prosecute crimes. …
I was also one of the first freshman members of Congress to sign on to the Military Readiness Enhancement Act of 2007, commonly referred to as the bill that will repeal the military’s antiquated “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. It saddens me that we still need to fight to make sure all Americans can participate in a life free of harassment and violence. As I’m sure you are aware, when one group is not allowed to fully participate, we all suffer. But until peace and full participation are secure in our society, I will continue to be a clear voice for justice on these issues.
So, two days ago I was sitting at the MCN technology conference at the Depot in Mpls. and YOUR face popped up on the screen when Rainbow Rumpus was featured as a winner of the Dot.org awards. In front of 350 plus people, wha la! Abigail and Keith Ellison!
