“Helped me understand my kids”
January 15, 2007
Reviewer: MommaCaine

“I just came out Aug ‘06. The book taught me that kids have to “come out” about their parents (or may choose to hide it) and it’s okay! Also, my multi-sexual eldest does not want to be categorized, and it’s okay! Glad to have it on my shelf.”

I wish I had readers like MommaCaine by my side when booksellers tell me they don’t have a copy of my book on their shelves because “it’s already three years old.”

I can accept the “old” label for a book about a topic that came and went, like, say Private Jessica Lynch’s memoir. But it’s not like LGBT parenting is a “trend” that has run its course. Openly gay people continue to take on parenthood, and married “straight” parents continue to come out of the closet.

I will always encourage you to “try your local independent bookstore first.” But when independent bookstores all but give up on making a title accessible (save for placing a special order when you ask for it specifically,) they can’t be surprised when consumers choose the immediate convenience of ordering online.
