“Helped me understand my kids”
January 15, 2007
Reviewer: MommaCaine“I just came out Aug ‘06. The book taught me that kids have to “come out” about their parents (or may choose to hide it) and it’s okay! Also, my multi-sexual eldest does not want to be categorized, and it’s okay! Glad to have it on my shelf.”
I wish I had readers like MommaCaine by my side when booksellers tell me they don’t have a copy of my book on their shelves because “it’s already three years old.”
I can accept the “old” label for a book about a topic that came and went, like, say Private Jessica Lynch’s memoir. But it’s not like LGBT parenting is a “trend” that has run its course. Openly gay people continue to take on parenthood, and married “straight” parents continue to come out of the closet.
I will always encourage you to “try your local independent bookstore first.” But when independent bookstores all but give up on making a title accessible (save for placing a special order when you ask for it specifically,) they can’t be surprised when consumers choose the immediate convenience of ordering online.
