Queerspawn in Time
Time Magazine’s feature “16 by 16″ (in which “16 teens discuss what it’s like being an adolescent”) includes a contribution by Caroline Cox-Orrell of Newton, Massachusetts. Her two moms broke up when she was nine. One has gotten married (since it’s legal in their state) to a new partner, and her other mom is planning to get married soon as well.
And now many of my readers are shaking their heads in astonishment: Four moms!
Yeah, it used to faze me too. Then I met a kid with five moms.
Here’s my favorite sentence:
I love being able to educate and talk about my parents, but I hope that one day, simply having divorced lesbian mothers won’t get you in the news.
Amen.
