Aunt/Uncle Transition

A question emailed to me today:

My husband’s now-sister is a man-to-woman transgender. My in-laws don’t have a relationship with her, and talk about Travis like he’s dead, which my children hear. Is there any kind of children’s book on the market that will help my children understand what happened to Uncle Travis and where Aunt Amber came from?

I don’t know of any children’s book addressing transitioning (please leave a comment if you do) but I do know a great documentary on the topic.

That is a terrific suggestion - That movie was really sweet.

I also recommend checking out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GQTGParenting/links

There are a bunch of links there (that I think are visible even to people who are not list-members) - Most are about transgender parents, but there are a few that are about talking about gender transition with children.
