GLBT Reading Series - Special Pride Reading

John Medeiros and Andrea Jenkins are curators for the SASE GLBT Reading Series, a Twin Cities-based series that connects GLBTA audiences with established and emerging writers.

When I was a featured writer for the series last fall, I had a lot of fun. For audience members who presumed the only thing I ever read from is Families Like Mine, I surprised them with 25 minutes of new, unpublished material, about homophobic boyfriends and pushy lesbians and the influence of the International Male catalog on my sexual development.

I have the opportunity to read again as part of the series. This time they have pulled together a showcase of some of their previous writers in honor of Pride.

We each have five precious minutes, so I’ll just have to jump right in; no time to warm up a crowd. I don’t know exactly what I’ll put in those five minutes, but I promise it will be fresh. As in: ink-still-wet fresh. I am currently working on a submission for Tom Dolby’s forthcoming anthology, which is due a couple days after the reading. Perfect timing.

I’d love to read your International Male piece!

Now that I think of it, I’ll bet a lot of folks have International Male stories to tell.
