What really matters.

Recent distortions of Families Like Mine have distracted me from the reasons I wrote it in the first place. An email this week reminded me:

My partner and I are a lesbian couple who are 6 months pregnant with our first child. I just finished reading your book today. A humongous thank you for writing this book - I haven’t read anything like it. I’m grateful that I found it before giving birth. It brought up several issues I’d never thought of, even though I consider myself well educated and conscientious about my attitudes and speech. I found the “Second Generation” and “Tourists at Home” chapters especially thought-provoking.

I think I’ll be a better parent for having read your book.

Thank you again,
Erin Perotti-Orcutt

Thank you, Erin, for writing me and for allowing me to share your note with readers.
