Visible and Notable
My friends Kathy and Orion are legally married to each other. Recently they stopped wearing their wedding rings because they don’t like how the rings are coming to symbolize a discriminatory institution.
A few days before the rally at the Minnesota State Capitol, Orion mentioned they were thinking about participating. I encouraged them to go and be visible as a married couple. Here’s the sign they made:

Kathy commented,”The rally was fun. We got our picture taken with our sign by at least four people. It makes me sad that straight allies are notable enough at these events that our presence was remarkable at all.”
Legally married couples can speak out more, but they can also reflect the real diversity of unions that already exist under the law. Those of us who are “married” — but not really in the right’s biblically defined manner — might begin to talk about having a civil union. In other words, help to narrow the definition of marriage even further to show how many people of all kinds are being excluded from the very narrow worldview of the Michele Bachmann crowd.

Cute signage. That’s like saying a two-headed nickel or a double-tailed dime is still “legal tender”. LOL.
As long as men and women are not truly “equal” to each other, then a sexually segragationist marriage can never be truly “equal” to that of one man and one woman.
