Abigail Garner steps down from “Fresh Fruit”

On Thursday’s show I announced my departure from “Fresh Fruit.” I will continue to be a pledge-paying listener and an occasional volunteer at KFAI, one of the few places I’ve encountered that really walks the walk when it comes to “community.”

Here’s the statement that aired last night:

Hello, this is Abigail Garner. For the past five and a half years, I have had the pleasure of being part of Fresh Fruit here on KFAI. I have enjoyed talking to local heroes like Annalee Stuart from Old Lesbians Organizing for Change, and Phia Xiong from Shades of Yellow. I have also brought national voices to our local airwaves, like Keith Boykin exposing the myths about the “down low,” and Kate Clinton bringing light to serious political issues.

I have been honored to bring these and other voices to you. Voices that represent the diversity within LGBT communities. Now, after five and a half years, it’s time for me to move on.

I am grateful to my talented and loyal engineer, Ann McNally, who has been so much fun to work with, both on air and behind the scenes. I wish her well as she faces new adventures of her own in her move to Seattle.

And I am of course grateful to you, the listeners, for tuning in.

If you’d like to get in touch with me, you can always find out what I’m up to by visiting my website, FamiliesLikeMine.com.

Thank you. And please keep listening to Fresh Fruit.

Of course, for those of you reading this blog, you can find me right here. Archives about the guests I’ve had on the show can be viewed by selecting the Fresh Fruit Category.

I hope there will be more radio in your future! I appreciate your informed and intelligent approach to interviewing your guests. You presented an amazing selection of folks, both locally and nationally, that introduced me to important voices in the GLBTcommunity.

    Thank you and best wishes.

Hi, Abigail! I’m sorry to say I just realized you were no longer on KFAI (I’ve been pretty busy training for the Red Ribbon Ride next month, among other things). I had fun sub-engineering, so I’m really sad to learn that I won’t get to do any more shows with you.

I’m sure we’ll cross paths again eventually–so good luck with everything. I look forward to talking to you again someday soon!
