Final Word on White House Egg Roll
Columnist Deb Price confirms that Laura Bush is allowing “all families” to roll eggs on the White House lawn. As I wrote about earlier this year, conservative media discovered that Family Pride Coalition was organizing gay-parented families to attend the April 17 event.
Early speculation about how the White House would prevent “activists” (i.e. parents who happen to be gay) from “crashing” (i.e. participating in) the event suggested limiting invitations to military families. Laura Bush is taking the medium-high road — not explicitly saying “of course gay families are welcome” but not using the military loop-hole to exclude them.
I can’t help but wonder if Bush advisors cautioned them about the potential public relations disaster the loop-hole could cause, since “military families” include plenty of gay dads and lesbian mothers serving our country.
