New Documentary by NYU Student

Washington Square News reports on NYU’s graduate film festival, including a documentary, Queer Spawn by Anna Boluda of Barcelona. (No confirmation one way or the other as to Boluda’s choice of queerspawn as one or two words for the title.)

In the decidedly liberal atmosphere of Greenwich Village,

it should be noted, the film received a raucous round of applause.

It should also be noted that COLAGE NYC planned to attend the event as a group, which could also account for said raucousness.

In the past week, I have seen In My Shoes. and MTV’s True Life. I have not seen Queer Spawn. Who has seen it? What do you think?

Queerspawn is basically about youth who were at Family Week last summer with one exception of a son of gay dads from NY.
The other major focus is on Kyle, a member of the COLAGE Speak Out program who is interviewed both in her home town in Texas and again in Ptown. The other folks are all COLAGErs who were in Ptown last summer.

I was so busy being excited at all the awesome queerspawn in it to think critically the first time I watched. At a second look, its a little troubling that though the film is called Queerspawn, the first half includes a LOT of the parents of the boy in NY and Kyle talking. There are definitely other criticisms i have but overall its a pretty good film (very basic).
