Queerspawn on MTV

Civil Union Ceremony, Vermont 2000

This week, MTV’s show “True Life” is about Hope Steinman-Iacullo. (Scheduled to air on Thursday evening, January 26, 2006. Check your local listings for exact time.)

The episode is called “I Have Gay Parents.”
Yes, she does. And they’re fabulous.

(Here’s a link to a previous story on PBS that featured Hope’s family.)

Kudos to Hope for choosing to open her life up in order to educate other people about having gay parents. I also extend an understated tip of the hat to her Dads for never pushing her into the spotlight. I met this family in 1999 and have come to respect and adore all three of them. I can say from first-hand experience that Wayne and Sal have never pushed the activist role onto their daughter. Hope has chosen this path on her own, and on her own terms.

Which is how it should be.

Isn’t Hope also featured on the Rosie O’Donnell Family Cruise documentary?
