The White House Responds to the Threat of “So-Called Families” on their Front Lawn
More on the White House Egg Roll from, well, The White House. Here’s an excerpt from yesterday’s press briefing.
Q [Les Kinsolving]: Scott, a two-part. There’s been extensive reporting of a homosexual group, Soulforce, calling on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual and trans-gender Americans to be the first in line at this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll on April 17th, as a way to show the nation their so-called families. And my question: Will the President take any measures to prevent these activists from using this non-political event as a way to push their agenda on the rest of us?
MR. McCLELLAN: Well, this event is a time to celebrate Easter and to have a good family celebration here at the White House. And in terms of any other details about it, I think it’s still a few months off, so we’ll talk about it as we get closer. I’ve seen a couple of reports about it; I don’t know how extensive that reporting has been. But this has been a family event for a long time and the President always looks forward to this event.
File that under “how to say a whole lot without saying anything.” Sounds to me like McClellan has no clue what the question is about but doesn’t want to admit it. Especially to a reporter who is obviously conservative. For McClellan to admit that he isn’t familiar with this issue that is presented like it is the headline of the day would fuel doubt for even Bush’s core supporters that his administration isn’t on top of the “threat” of “activist” homosexuals.
World Net Daily is taking credit for asking the question. WorldNet Daily should get their facts straight. Soulforce simply passed on information, which was distributed and picked up by someone who cared to draw attention to it. But Family Pride, not Soulforce is behind the event. Secondly, if anybody is “pushing an agenda” it is a reporter in the Briefing Room who chooses to use language such as “activists” for gay parents and their children, who misrepresents some moderate blog buzz as “extensive reporting” to McClellen to make it seem like this is a real “threat,” and who frames this issue as something that will victimize “the rest of us” (i.e. straight people?).
Anyone, regardless of their professional experience or age, who refers to children with parents who love them and who happen to be gay, and then calls them “so-called families” has little more integrity than the playground bullies these kids face every day.
