Terminology alert: Referring to someone as a “colager” is a way to generically describe a person with queer parent/s — especially if you are not sure if they are comfortable with the term “queerspawn.” That is to say you need not be an official member of the organization to call yourself a colager or to show up at COLAGE events. I have met a bunch of cool colagers in the NYC area. If you live there, show up and make your own fun happen.

Here’s the official announcement:

Adult Colagers To Meet Next Week in Brooklyn, NY

Next Sunday, January 8th, 2006, the Adult COLAGERS (21 and up) are meeting at BESO’S Restaurant on 5th Avenue and Union Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn at 12:30 p.m.

If you are an adult who has/had one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender parent please join us to connect to other adults with LGBT parents, learn about COLAGE NYC and where it’s going!

Some of the attendees were at the holiday party in December, but many are new or just “alumni” who are gathering to brainstorm about the future. Some projects are adult-oriented, and some of the focus will be on how to support the younger COLAGE events. If there are any adult COLAGERS who are hearing about this for the first time, please feel free to attend, and also please contact us through “reply” e-mail to join our mailing list.

This meeting will also serve as a point of introduction for Dori Kavanagh, an adult COLAGEr whos is helping take over the leadership of COLAGE, NYC.

[end of COLAGE's announcement]

“Adult-oriented” could be misconstrued, but in this context “adult-oriented” means void of face painting, babysitting, or renting one of those air-filled jumpy-jump things that you’ll find in the “family” section at Pride festivals.

And as a reminder: I am neither staff nor volunteer at COLAGE…just a faithful collaborator. Any questions about this event should be sent to colage@colage.org. Not me.

Hey, Abigail. I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know what a fan I am! I was so happy to see our little posting on your blog! COLAGE NYC is really taking off and our event on Saturday was a huge success. I couldn’t be happier. I’ll keep you posted on our upcoming events and stuff. Keep up the good work!
