Parents who truly grasp that “best interest of the child” thing
Bravo to the former husband of WNBA player Sheryl Swoopes.
A recent story at foxsports.com wraps up with mention of Swoopes’ 8-year-old son, Jordan, and Jordan’s father, Eric Jackson.
Jackson, who was married to Swoopes until 1999, is quoted in the article: “Our son’s well-being is my sole focus. I am completely committed to doing what is in the best interest of our child. My wish is to partner with Sheryl to support our son in light of this announcement, I want our son to know that he has two parents who love him and support him and above all else are dedicated to ensuring his mental and emotional security.”
With all the talk about how Swoopes hopes to still be a role model, I think Jackson is someone to look up to, too — for respectfully “coming out” as the former husband of a lesbian, and for putting the welfare of his child above everything else. May he be a role model to straight spouses everywhere.
