Good News from the American Academy of Family Physicians
In October, the American Academy of Family Physicians — which has 93,000 members — joined a list of professional organizations that support children being raised in nurturing families, regardless of the parents’ sexual orientation.
RESOLVED, That the AAFP establish policy and be supportive of legislation which promotes a safe and nurturing environment, including psychological and legal security, for all children, including those of adoptive parents, regardless of the parents’ sexual orientation.

This resolution follows a policy statement released last February by the American Academy of Pediatrics supporting legal recognition of parents of the same gender through co-parent or second-parent adoption.
