Transgender Day of Remembrance

On November 20th, dozens of cities in the US and Canadawill observe the 4th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance to memorialize those who have been killed because of anti-transgender hate. Find out if there is a vigil in your area.

The site lists 26 people who have been killed in the past year. Keep in mind that those are only the ones that have been reported — there are certainly others we may never know about.

The most recent tragedy in anti-transgender hate is the death of Gwen Araujo, a 17-year-old in Newark, California, who was killed after it was discovered that she was transgender. The GSA Network is posting updated information and links to articles about Araujo.

Additionally, the Newark Chapter of PFLAG has set up an email account solely for monitoring events as they relate to the death of Gwen Araujo. If you would like to join their mailing list, email PFLAGNewark@yahoo.com with a subject line that says “Keep me informed”.
