NLGJA Announces 2002 Excellence in Journalism Award-Winners; Journalists Honored for Gay-Related Media Coverage

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 14 /US Newswire/ — The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) today announced the recipients of its 2002 Excellence in Journalism Awards, a program that bestows five $1,000 prizes for the year’s best work in gay-related journalism.

Established in 1993 to foster, recognize and reward excellence in journalism on issues related to the gay and lesbian community, the cash awards consist of five categories: Written Opinion/Editorial, Written News/Feature, Audio, Video and New Media Journalism. (NOTE: The $1,000 cash awards were presented to the First Place Winners in each category; the other winners were presented citations.)

The awards selection process was supervised this year by NLGJA Board member, J. Ford Huffman with USA Today. The awards were presented at the 2002 NLGJA Convention held at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday evening, Sept. 14, 2002.
