Find Me at Family Week

Family Week is a gathering of hundreds of GLBT parents and their children in Provincetown, one of the queerest towns in the world. Family Week happens annually in August and is co-sponsored by Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE) and Family Pride Coalition.

For those of you who are attending, I will be presenting several times again this year.

My schedule is as follows:

FOR PARENTS: Tuesday, August 7, 11:00am-12:30pm at Vixen (366 Commercial Street)

“Our Heritage: How Queer Culture Influences Children’s Perspectives”

FOR COLAGErs: Wednesday, August 8th, 5:00pm-6:00pm at St. Mary’s Church (517 Commercial Street)

“Media Training Workshop for People with GLBT Parents”
Co-presented with filmmaker Meema Spadola, creator of “Our House: A very real documentary about kids of gay & lesbian parents

With a growing interest in our families, and a high interest in gaining perspectives from the real “experts” — children growing up these homes — Meema and I created this workshop to help make media experiences more satisfying and much less intimidating.

FOR PARENTS: Thursday, August 9, 11:00am-12:30pm at Provincetown Inn (One Commercial Street)

“Building Rather Than Burning Bridges: Developing a Positive Partnerships with your Children’s Straight Parent.”

A look at how and why to care about issues “straight spouses” face in order to prevent children from getting caught in the cross-fire when a GLBT parent comes out of a heterosexual marriage. Co-presented with Amity Pierce

Buxton, founder of the Straight Spouse Network and Jeff Buechler, Leader of the Baltimore Spouse Support Group. (See Related Column: “Consider the Straight Spouse When Leaving a Marriage“)

FOR EVERYONE: Thursday, August 9, 3:00pm-5:00pm at Vixen (366 Commercial Street)

“Our Stories: Voices of LGBT Parents and Their Children”
A reading to benefit COLAGE.

I’ll be sharing the podium with a great group of authors, including Suzanne Johnson & Elizabeth O’Connor (”For Lesbian Parents”) and John and Michael Galluccio (”An American Family”). I’ll be reading excerpts from a memoir-in-progress. The linking theme of the excerpts I’ve selected will be ex-boyfriends — my dad’s and my own.
